"UFO(Unidentifiable
Found Objects)"
26'x2'6"x2'5"
Collected Objects
1998
Artist Statement:
When Brancusi proclaimed
in the 1920's "It is not birds I sculpt, it is the essence of flight."
He was referring to his ongoing series of Birds in Space that dealt with his
desire for "personal transcendence." In the 20's and 30's flight
was thought to be the ultimate act of freedom; ones paramount attempt to "rise
heavenward." In my sculpture U.F.O. (unidentifiable found objects) I
too was interested in producing a shape that dealt with the notion of transcendence.
Not only by creating a projectile that appears ready for liftoff but, also
by attempting to elevate the most mundane of everyday objects to the level
of monument.
