Any career-bound sculptor may apply to the Franconia Sculpture Park intern artist program. Successful applicants are provided with room and board; they must fund their own travel expenses, along with materials they need to create their sculpture. To help offset travel and material expenses the intern artist may incur, most schools sponsor their internship. The sponsorship makes it possible for a student in any financial situation to participate in the FSP intern artist program.
All potential intern artists need to apply to our program prior to their school’s consideration of sponsorship. An application consists of the application cover sheet, a letter of interest, 12 slides or images on disk, slide/disk script, applicant resume, and name/address/phone numbers of 2 people who can serve as a reference. An intern is accepted or rejected based on the merit of their application, their potential as a career bound artist, and the recommendations of their supporters. All applications are considered.
Sponsorship does not necessarily guarantee a space for an intern from a particular art school, college, or university. Only after a potential intern makes a successful application do we request sponsorship from their school.
We encourage all applicants to speak to their school representative about the possibility of sponsorship. Sponsorship is crucial because many students could not otherwise afford to spend time being an intern without a "day" job. A portion of the sponsorship funds go to FSP to offset the cost of room/board, outdoor studio, machinery, and tools for the intern artists.
