Artist Statement

The bandages stick to and heal the Commons building, creating an intervention, metaphorically healing its wounds. In particular, the bandages are attached to the Commons on Franconia’s grounds, highlighting the importance of community spaces as a place of safety and healing. The bright, colorful, floral pattern brings to mind the comfort and the warmth of family gatherings around a tablecloth. The bandaids themselves offer a temporary solution covering up the broken aspects of the building. They provide an easy answer to deeper complex issues, in turn humanising the shared space. The bandaids represent our tendencies to ignore the root cause of mental illness in favor of quick fixes.
