Artist Statement

With this sculpture I wanted to build a unique relationship between these large basalt stones formed and altered over millions of years. Situating them near enough to allow intimacy while placing a complex interconnecting cantilever between them that implies both tension and room for their own space. I was also thinking, by exposing the raw welds, torch cuts, hardware, and much of the characteristics of found steel and stone I am bringing people closer to my working process.
My art is often influenced by my life and experiences past, present, and future. Symbols and shapes appear in my process representing memories of past victories and tragedies. This present community saturated by artists and creations accelerate my ideas. As well, current shifts in human history; a Prince falls from grace, a Queen rises in formation, and a race to lead a world power add weight to what is already my heaviest sculpture. My work and time spent at Franconia has significantly impacted my artistry and will surely stimulate progress on my next projects.
