Grief Truck

Papercrete, foam, paint

2022

Artist Statement

“Are you grieving a loved one? A long-term relationship? A beloved pet? Your pre-pandemic life???  Well take a cue from the Purple Creature here and call THE GRIEF TRUCK!!   Excrete all of your sadness into a pile and GRIEF TRUCK will come and take it away!!  Big Mama will even show up to help you shovel it in!! WOW!!  It’s that EASY!!!  Call 1-800-SUPER-SADDD,  TODAY!!!!!
Unfortunately, the Grief Truck doesn’t exist, and grieving is something we just have to deal with.  It’s terrible but it’s part of being human. Loss is inevitable, and reminds us to appreciate what you have while you have it.  I found making this sculpture cathartic. People like to say “I”m dealing with some SHIT”,  and I decided to take that literally.  I imagined leaving my poopy pile of grief here in Minnesota as I drove away back to Tennessee. I smiled all the way home. Maybe you can leave some of yours here as well.
