Artist Statement

The Big Game is a larger than life arcade-style game inspired by Big Game Hunter. An acrylic nail bedazzles an enormous thumb, and when the sculpture was first installed, park visitors could aim and fire the laser gun, hoping to hit the heart on the flirtatious deer’s butt. Depending on the shooters aim, the game would heckle him or her with blinking lights, sounds, and set of chrome eyelashes. Fingers, acrylic nails, diamonds, and precious metals play a prominent role in Kari’s work, emphasizing themes of sexuality, absurdity, and flirtation.
