Artist Statement

Peyton is a Minneapolis born and bred artist, and started making graffiti works at a young age. Black Book is a scaled-up version of a graffiti artist’s black book, a collection of drawings done by the artist’s friends and peers, done in their own particular style, commonly used as a source of inspiration. As you flip through Black Book, you get a sense of the Minneapolis graffiti community. The sculpture also inverts the traditional role of the artist as sole creator of a work; Peyton pays homage to his friends in Black Book.
