Brady will work with resident artists, interns

Franconia Sculpture Park is pleased to announce that noted sculptor Robert Brady will join its resident artists, fellows and artist interns at the 43 acre sculpture park to provide mentorship, inspiration and support to the 40+ artists working during summer 2019.

Robert Brady is an American modernist sculptor who works in ceramics and wood. Born in Reno, Nevada, he has made his home in the San Francisco Bay Area for many decades now. Brady is a multi-faceted artist who additionally works in pottery, painting, and illustration, though he is best known for his abstract figurative sculptures.

Brady is a professor emeritus at California State University, Sacramento. Though he came to art through an affinity for clay, Brady long ago began incorporating wood into his practice, and now creates works in clay, wood, bronze, and on paper. Brady earned a BFA from the California College of the Arts in Oakland and a MFA from University of California, Davis. After completing his studies, Brady joined the faculty at CSU, Sacramento, where he taught for 33 years. Though Brady’s early work dealt directly with functional clay vessels, he eventually began creating abstract and figurative pieces in varying materials. These works call to mind ritual objects or totems from around the world, yet remain specific to the artist’s own psyche. His work has been exhibited widely, and can be found in a number of public collections including the Derosa Preseve: Art & Nature, Napa, Ca. Mint Museum of Art, N.C, Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian Museum, Wash. D.C., San Francisco Fine Arts Museum, De Young, San Francisco CA.,  Arkansas Museum of Art, Little Rock, Ark., San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA., Stedelijik Museum, Amsterdam, Holland, Utah Museum of Art, Salt Lake City, Utah, Oakland Museum, Oakland, CA.,  Los Angeles County Museum of Art,  North Dakota Museum of Art, and the Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, Ca.  Robert Brady has received multiple fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts (1981, 1988, and 2008), and was elected a Fellow of the American Craft Council in 2007.
