In the fall of 2014 Franconia offered free arts learning tours to students in rural communities. To continue meeting the needs of our rural community, Franconia has re-opened these offerings for the Spring. RAP provides fee-free Discover Sculpture Tours of the 43-acre sculpture park that includes a hands-on art-making session.

RAP serves rural youth from schools and other youth serving organizations in Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, and Pine, counties in Minnesota. Transportation reimbursements of up to $300 are also available. You will need to provide an invoice to Franconia detailing this expense to receive reimbursement.

Artist-Led Discover Sculpture Tours Include
• Guided Tours led by Teaching Artists that include an art making activity. Tours run 90 to 120 minutes.
• Interaction with 105+ large-scale sculptures in a 30-acre park
• Arts learning on topics such as, aesthetics, elements of art, techniques, and principles of art.
• Chances to visit the outdoor studio to learn about works-in progress from professional artists living
  at Franconia.
• Tour guides cater content to accommodate developmental stages and specific learning objectives.

To best serve varying age groups, we offer two different types of Discover Sculpture Tours.

Kindergarten-6th Grade

Wednesdays @ 10am • May 13th, 20th & 27th

Students will participate in a Creative Movement Tour led by a teaching artist who specializes in performance art. Students will learn about the elements and principles of art, then translate topics such as line, shape, movement, and emotions into performance based movements related to the sculptures they interact with.

7th Grade - 12th Grade

Thursdays @ 10am • May 14th, 21st, & 28th, June 4th & 11th

Students will be guided through the park with a professional Sculptor who will facilitate learning sessions on the principles and elements of art while using Franconia’s exhibit to spark discussion. Students will be asked to sketch out these topics and then translate their new vocabulary into a mixed-media sculpture. Reflection and critique will follow the process..

To sign your group up for a session, please fill out our application form to show your interest in RAP.
